Does Cialis Lower Blood Pressure

Cialis is a drug that improves erection function in men that are experiencing erectile dysfunction. Its side effects can lead to changes in blood pressure, as the drug has vasodilator properties. The effects of Cialis might either increase or decrease the blood pressure in an individual, because individuals may respond differently to the effects of this drug.

How does Cialis work?

Cialis is an ED drug that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These drugs are used for improving the erection function in men having impotence issues. The ingredient that potentiates this drug is Tadalafil, which is its active component that is clinically proven for treating erection difficulties.

Tadalafil is a Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor compound, as per the pharmacological classification. Cialis drugs are infused with Tadalafil, which makes these drugs vasodilators. They are responsible for eliminating erection difficulties by increasing the blood circulation to the penile arteries by causing vasodilation in the penile.

Vasodilation

As penile arteries dilate because of the Cialis pill, more blood enters the penile arteries by overcoming the blockages, and it gets trapped under high pressure to hold the erections. Vasodilation happens due to the release of neurotransmitter chemicals known as nitric oxide in the inner walls of the penile arteries.

So, the function of Cialis is to boost the release of nitric oxide in the arterial walls of the penile, which causes an increase in the flow of blood to the penile, leading to stronger erections.

Effects of Cialis on blood pressure

PDE5 inhibitor drugs such as Tadalafil are pure vasodilators that relieve the muscle tensions in the penile arteries and expand them to accommodate more blood inside for triggering harder erections. The effects of Cialis expand the arteries by relaxing their walls, overcoming all the clog formation that has happened due to the buildup of plaque in the passages, and increasing blood flow, which reduces blood pressure.

The effect of Cialis is temporary. The penile arteries remain dilated for a short time. As the effects of Cialis start fading, the penile arteries come back to their original form. The arteries shrink back to become narrow as they were before taking the pill and the blood pressure might increase.

Causes Of Low Dose Of Cialis

A low dose of Cialis can cause blood pressure to drop to some points, which is not even significant. The blood pressure gets restored after some time. This might not cause any problems. However, a high dose of Cialis can lead to a significant drop in blood pressure. Which can be dangerous for some individuals. High doses of Cialis pills are not appropriate to be consumed by some individuals, due to contraindication.

In addition, the effects of Cialis can also cause a rise in blood pressure. Although this is quite rare, but likely. A sudden rise in blood pressure can be indicated through symptoms that include headache, chest pain, and flushing. While the symptoms of blood pressure drop include dizziness, fainting, and blurred vision.

Drug interactions

One must talk to their doctor before using Cialis. You must tell the doctor about your medical history, health conditions, chronic issues, and medications or drugs that you are using to manage some health issues. Some types of drugs might not be suitable to be consumed with Cialis, due to drug interaction.

The combination of Cialis pills with some other drugs such as nitrates-based drugs, alpha-blockers drugs, diuretics, HIV protease inhibitors, antifungals, chemotherapy drugs, and medications for an autoimmune system can lead to adverse side effects post-interaction. Their combination can cause a severe drop in blood pressure, which can be life-threatening. Therefore, a high dose of this drug is not appropriate to be taken by men with ongoing medical conditions without informing their doctor first.

Besides, Cialis in combination with alcohol can also cause a substantial drop in blood pressure. The effects and severity might be different in individuals. But it is preferable and always better to avoid the interaction of these pills with alcohol.

Other side effects of Cialis

Other than blood pressure changes, one might also experience some common side reactions that include headaches, confusion, insomnia, rashes, nausea, vomiting, flushing, stomachache, sore throat, diarrhea, stuffy nose or nasal congestion, back pain, chills, blurred vision, spontaneous erections, and dizziness. These mild effects are common, and they disappear after some time, and in case it persists you need to consult your doctor.
